Nominations for the WAWU Executive Board opened today! If you’re a student employee — ESE or OSE — who wants to help run the union, now is a great chance to get involved.
There are a variety of positions open, which have their own unique responsibilities.
- The President oversees the processes of the union and maintains order. They are also the primary liaison between WAWU-UAW, UAW Region 6, UAW as a whole, WWU, general membership, and the media.
- The Financial Secretary handles union finances, dues, and associated items, as well as state, federal, and local filings.
- The Recording Secretary creates and maintains records of all union meetings, operations, and communications. They work with the other Executive Officers to ensure transparency and accessibility of information for WAWU’s membership.
- The Sergeant-At-Arms helps the President with maintaining order when asked to do so. They are a bridge between the union’s membership and its leadership, ensuring that the membership’s voice is heard at meetings. They also fill in for other Executive Officers as necessary.
- The Trustee supervises all union funds and property. They also conduct a yearly audit of all local union financial transactions.
- The Head Steward (or Member At Large) represents the membership at executive board meetings. They support union organizers, conduct outreach, serve as a liaison between committees and the executive board, and help other Executive Officers as needed.
Since PERC has determined that OSEs are a part of WAWU, all WWU student employees in good standing are eligible to run for Executive Board positions. You’re in good standing if one of the following applies to you:
- You’re currently employed as an ESE or OSE at WWU
- You have a set start date for a future position as an ESE or OSE at WWU
- You’ve been employed as an ESE or OSE at WWU within the past twelve months.
If you’re interested in being nominated for any of these positions, please use this form to fill out your name, your pronouns, your job title and workplace, a 3:4 aspect ratio headshot photo that clearly shows you, what position you’re running for, and an optional candidate statement (under 500 words).
Nominations for these positions will all close on Saturday, April 25th at MIDNIGHT! Be sure to get your nomination in before then.
