On Friday May 29th WAWU and WWU made incredible progress on a tentative agreement for all student workers on campus! The first of its kind in Washington State. So far we have had 10 bargaining sessions… and student workers have shown their strength, showing up on International Workers Day, delivering a Solidarity letter of mass support, and having a strong and mobilized membership.
For these reasons we have made WWU agree to the following:
Expanded access to health care coverage over the summer
Notifying the community of immigration enforcement on campus
A standardized protocol for student workers who've responded to a traumatic event on the job
Expansive protocol for reinstatement in the case of immigration related disruption to work
This Wednesday, June 3rd, is our last scheduled bargaining session.
History will be made in this session – But operational student employees will be covered by the contract only after the contract undergoes the RATIFICATION process. Our contract needs to be RATIFIED BY US, the MEMBERSHIP!
Come out at 5PM on Wednesday and hear an update from the bargaining committee and help get the contract agreed upon!
