WAWU-UAW 4929 Stands in Solidarity With Palestine

WHEREAS, WAWU has stood in solidarity with the Palestinian Liberation Movement since the union’s inception, bargaining our first, historic contract in tandem with the negotiations carried out by representatives of the Popular University for Gaza encampment at Western Washington University. 

WHEREAS, WAWU heeds the calls from the workers of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Union (PGFTU) upon unions internationally to mobilize around disrupting the flow of weapons and the financial networks that finance the Israeli occupation. 

WHEREAS, we particularly highlight their call for commitment to the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and its appeals for the academic, cultural, and economic boycott of entities tied to the Israeli apartheid regime. 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that WAWU calls for:

  • An immediate and permanent ceasefire.
  • An end to taxpayer dollars being used to fund the ongoing Gaza genocide and occupation of the West Bank and Lebanon.
  • The U.S. government to cease all weapons transfers and military aid to Israel.
  • The U.S. government to cease all diplomatic and political ties with Israel and to respect and enforce the ICC’s warrant for the arrest of Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.
  • The UAW national leadership to respect the BDS picket-line by refusing military shipments to Israel through all military ships and logistics companies.
  • The UAW International Executive Board to divest from Israel Bonds.
  • Our employer, Western Washington University, to disclose all university finances and cut all academic, cultural, and economic ties with Israel, Boeing, and all other entities complicit in the ongoing Gaza genocide.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Western Academic Workers United (WAWU) UAW 4929 affirms our solidarity to the Palestinian people in their unrelenting struggle for liberation and self determination under the ongoing occupation, ethnic cleansing, and genocide perpetrated by the apartheid state of Israel and funded by the United States.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, WAWU is unflinchingly committed to supporting the liberatory efforts of oppressed peoples domestically and abroad, and will continue to support and collaborate with organizations and movements committed to liberation and self determination for all.
