What is A Contract Action Team (CAT)?

It will take all 2,000+ Student Workers at Western working together to win the just contract we deserve.

In every workplace across campus, student employees must come together to shape our bargaining priorities, stand behind our proposals, and take action to improve our workplace rights.

In order to build the mass movement and supermajority we need, student workers across Western are joining the Contract Action Team (CAT) to make sure their coworkers stay informed and ready to win a strong contract.

Members of the Contract Action Team are committing to:

Publicly participate: attend bargaining sessions, wear union gear, be a visible union supporter and provide a picture and quote for website and Instagram
Build our power: Ensure co-workers have signed on as dues-paying members and have signed on to any other letters, demands, and other vehicles for worker power.
Keep others informed: Keep co-workers updated on what’s happening in bargaining, relay updates, answer questions, and address concerns
Mobilize coworkers: Ensure co-workers know the stakes of this contract fight, are participating in shaping and ratifying bargaining priorities, and are standing together to put pressure on WWU through rallies and other direct actions. When it comes time for action, turn out coworkers to those actions
Expand the CAT: Identify coworkers who can do all of the above in their own workplace

How Do I Join?

Anyone can nominate themself or a coworker to the CAT, and anyone nominated gets started on joining the CAT with a short training and onboarding. You should nominate a coworker who is respected by their colleagues or is the go-to person for questions about our union and contracts.
