“Doctober” at the Pickford – “Union” film, Q+A panel, and Tabling

October 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Each October the Pickford showcases Doctober—a month-long documentary film festival dedicated to one of Bellingham’s proven favorite genres. Doctober is the largest documentary festival in the Northwest, screening over 35 films in one month. For this festival the Pickford partners with local organizations to bring important issues to the screen; many presentations feature special guests, filmmakers, pre-screening receptions, and guided group discussions. Pickford Film Center is excited for Doctober to continue with smashing success and enrich our community for another year.
Unions are once again having a moment in the United States, and that’s due in no small part to labor organizer Chris Smalls and his efforts to unionize the Staten Island Amazon warehouse he worked at, JFK8. The film follows Smalls as he organizes and galvanizes Amazon workers, eventually forming the Amazon Labor Union. It’s probably not possible for most people to go up against the second-largest private employer in the nation and win, but then again, most people are not Chris Smalls.
